TI  - Ecological impacts of coastal protection measures on coastal ecosystems of the German Baltic Sea

AB  - Along the Baltic Sea coast, coastal protection structures protect municipalities in the face of rising sea level and increasing frequency of storm surges. However, the extent of these effects on coastal ecosystems are mostly unknown. This dissertation investigated which of the following aspects of the ecosystems are altered by coastal protection: sediment characteristics, nutrient concentrations, turbidity and biodiversity. The results show that all coastal protection measures have an impact on the coast, however, the impacts differ dependent on the coastal protection structure used.<eng>
