It was developed to overcome the limitations of conventional DBS systems, especially in terms of functionality, long-term capability, and animal welfare. STELLA combines ultra-low power consumption, dual-channel, current-controlled stimulation, monitoring, wireless communication, and closed-loop functionality in a volume of less than 1 cm³. The work thus establishes a scientifically robust and ethically improved foundation for preclinical DBS research.
