A case study combines bibliometric analysis, techno-economic assessment, and life cycle assessment to evaluate feasibility, environmental performance, and scalability. Results show that viability depends strongly on scale, financing, waste quality, and product mix, with combined energy and alternative fuel/material pathways performing best. HWtE achieves up to 3.5 t CO₂-eq savings per tonne of waste compared to landfilling.
