TY - BOOK AU - Kong, Hui PY - 2025 DA - 2025// TI - Impacts of multiple stressors on reproductive performance and gamete metabolism of the blue mussels Mytilus edulis: physiological mechanisms and ecological implications PB - Universität Rostock CY - Germany; Rostock AB - Mussels face warming, hypoxia, and salinity shifts. In Mytilus edulis, we tested whether sperm ATP comes mainly from oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and how parental hypoxia/anoxia and seawater temperature/salinity affect sperm and fertilization. OXPHOS was the main ATP source for motility. Parental anoxia lowered mitochondrial ATP capacity and coupling; hypoxia/anoxia increased mitochondrial ROS. Heat reduced respiratory efficiency and raised ROS; salinity effects were small. Sperm mitochondria were resilient; reproduction likely limited by gametes/embryos, not sperm metabolism.
