TY - BOOK AU - Kammann, Sandra PY - 2024 DA - 2024// TI - Structure and function of biological soil crusts along sand dune chronosequences PB - Universität Rostock CY - Germany; Rostock AB - This thesis investigates the successional development of biocrust and shifts in their phototrophic community along dune chronosequences. The study revealed that thin microalgae-biocrusts dominated younger dunes. On more stabilized dunes, macrophytic cryptogams were found. The input of organic biomass into the dunes allows for further soil development. Observed soil-forming processes confirm parent material transformation through mineral weathering, including shifts in the phosphorus pools. Biocrusts have the potential to influence the physicochemical conditions of their surrounding habitat.
