Using a combination of theoretical and experimental methods it investigates the properties and behaviour of NDs during and after compression. This work also studies how laser pulse shaping influences ND properties. With the use of a vacuum-compatible catcher material, this work has - for the first time - provided experimental evidence of the intact recovery of NDs from laser-driven shock compression of plastics.
