TY - BOOK AU - Hahn, Juliane PY - 2024 DA - 2024// TI - Survival of plant seeds in anaerobic digestion and ensilage PB - Universität Rostock CY - Rostock AB - If plant seeds survive the biogas production chain, weed problems could arise. The extent to which seeds from wild plants can survive anaerobic digestion (AD) and ensiling was investigated. AD reduced seed viability, with the extent of the reduction being determined by an interplay of seed characteristics and process parameters. Responses of seed viability ranged from complete inactivation to a steep decline after a lag phase to an initial increase in viability (hormesis). Ensiling did not completely inactivate any of the tested species with physical dormancy, but all of them without it.
