AB  - The thesis investigates the oxygen dynamics in the deep layers of the four sub-basins in the central Baltic Sea during the last 70 years and the possible reaction of the system to the reduced nutrient forcing. It was found that the overall deoxygenation during the study period is manifested as the shift in oxygen consumption from the water column to the sediments. In addition, the remote sub-basins receive, at the moment, almost no oxygen from the Major Baltic Inflows. No hysteresis effect was observed in the system's reaction to the reduced nutrient input in sensitivity experiments.<eng>
