AB  - This thesis investigated nitrogen processes in a flooded peatland and coastal sediments of the southern Baltic Sea. In the 1st part the nitrogen fixing rates in resuspended sediments was measured which could contribute to the pelagic nitrogen pool. In the 2nd part it was determined if rising salinity in flooded peatlands affect ammonium assimilation and nitrification which could cause eutrophication there. In the 3rd part the seawater-induced ammonium release from soil was investigated (cation exchange) which could increase nitrogen concentrations in coastal areas.<eng>
