Photocatalytic CO2 reduction to CO and HCOOH with Cu photosensitizers combined with Fe catalysts was studied. In addition, the reductive coupling of CO2 to oxalate by a Fe and various Cu complexes bearing multidentate ligands was evaluated. Based on these results, the importance of cautious analysis and consideration of competing reactions were highlighted. This work could serve as a valuable guideline for future investigations on CO2 reductive coupling.
