Milk yield, heifer fertility and udder health of F1 crosses between Swedish Red and German Holsteins (GH) are in the range of purebred GH, whereas F1 crosses between GH and Montbéliarde, Brown Swiss and Jersey are inferior. 3-breed crosses can be equal to GH in fertility and udder health, but they are significantly lower in milk yield. The fitness and fertility of dairy herds can only be improved with F1 animals. <eng>
