The transition to a hydrogen-based economy requires safe, affordable, and reversible hydrogen storage technologies. Chemical hydrogen storage using CO₂-derived carriers is promising due to their abundance, low toxicity, and carbon-neutral potential. This work develops and evaluates catalytic systems for hydrogen storage and release using formic acid, potassium formate, and methyl formate. Homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts were studied regarding activity, selectivity, recyclability, and industrial relevance, from fundamental feasibility studies to scalable systems developed with industry.<eng>
