  <abstract type="Summary">There are few studies that define which methods are appropriate to measure the severity of suffering in animals. In the first study, we showed that corticosterone elevation is an important parameter for the assessment of distress in mice. In the second study, we analyzed the diagnostic value of a distress score, burrowing activity and body weight change in animal models of liver fibrosis. In the third study, the power of single and multiple parameters to determine an early humane endpoint was analyzed.&lt;eng&gt;</abstract>
  <abstract type="Summary">Es gibt nur wenige Studien, die definieren, welche Methoden geeignet sind, um den Schweregrad des Leidens bei Tierversuchen zu messen. In der ersten Studie zeigten wir, dass die Kortikosteronerhöhung ein wichtigr Messparameter für die Bewertung des Leidens bei Mäusen ist. In der zweiten Studie wurde die diagnostische Aussagekraft eines Distress-Scores, der Wühltätigkeit und der Körpergewichtsänderung in Tiermodellen für Leberfibrose analysiert. In der dritten Studie wurde die Leistungsfähigkeit einzelner und mehrerer Parameter analysiert, einen frühen humanen Endpunkt zu bestimmen.&lt;ger&gt;</abstract>
