%X In this work, state of the art in vitro cell exposure systems, in combination with comprehensive physical and chemical analytical characterization techniques, were used to investigate allergy enhancing and allergy pro-tective factors and mechanisms. In a last study, we went one step further and for the first time enabled or exposed in vitro cells continuously for 72 hours at the air liquid interface with ambient air, demonstrating the feasibility, as well as cytotoxicity and immunoregulatory effects.<eng>
