SB treatment showed a rapid and transient increase in oxygen consumption in fly heads. Mass spectrometry analysis revealed incorporation of labeled SB into mitochondrial pathway metabolites. An SB-independent way for mitochondrial activation was assessed in this work. The mitochondrial membrane potential of C. elegans was increased, using a light-activated proton pump, resulting in an extended median lifespan, even if the intervention took part in mid- or late-staged worms. %L 500 %9 theses %9 Text %9 Hochschulschrift %R 10.18453/rosdok_id00004576 %U https://purl.uni-rostock.de/rosdok/id00004576 %U https://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:gbv:28-rosdok_id00004576-2 %U https://d-nb.info/1329239512/34 %U https://doi.org/10.18453/rosdok_id00004576
