A new catalytic process was developed for the hydrogenation/hydrolytic ring opening of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) resulting in the formation of HHD in good yields. Furthermore, HHD was converted to useful follow-up products including pyrroles and cyclopentanone derivatives. Additionally, readily accessible rhenium(VII) oxide was used for the catalytic deoxydehydration of renewable triols under solvent-free and aerobic conditions resulting in formation of the hydroxy-alkenes. %L 540 %9 theses %9 Text %9 Hochschulschrift %R 10.18453/rosdok_id00002403 %U http://purl.uni-rostock.de/rosdok/id00002403 %U https://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:gbv:28-rosdok_id00002403-7 %U https://d-nb.info/1293655481/34 %U https://doi.org/10.18453/rosdok_id00002403
