Darst. In this thesis three approaches to improve the simulated transport processes in coastal ocean models are discussed. The first approach deals with the discretisation of the governing equations and provides a diagnostic tool to assess the accuracy of a numerical transport scheme. The second approach considers the validity of the governing equations itself and suggests an alternative inclusion of missing nonhydrostatic dynamics.
