C57BL/6J mice randomly underwent a BDL or Sham surgery or were used as controls. Metabolism, inflammatory markers, fractional protein synthesis rate, muscle function and gene expression were assessed. Sarcopenia occurs early, and involves systemic inflammation, a catabolic state, reduced protein synthesis and degradation of muscle proteins.
