@Book{198194897X, author="Hartisch, Jennifer", title="On kilometer-scale varicose-mode flows in the polar summer mesosphere", year="2025", address="Germany; Rostock", abstract="The mesosphere and lower thermosphere are difficult to access due to their altitude and complex dynamics. Motivated by an observation of a varicose structure with extreme vertical wind velocities, PMSE data from MAARSY (2015--2021) were analyzed. More than 700 events were identified, and four pronounced cases were examined in detail using complementary wind, temperature, and aspect sensitivity data. The results show varicose structure as a recurrent and previously underestimated phenomenon in the polar mesosphere, with bore-like features and links to wind shear and temperature inversions.", school="Universit{\"a}t Rostock", note="vorgelegt von Jennifer Hartisch", note="GutachterInnen: Jorge L.
