abstract="A murine bile duct ligation (BDL) model was used to study molecular mechanisms of sarcopenia and malnutrition in cholestatic liver disease. C57BL/6J mice randomly underwent a BDL or Sham surgery or were used as controls. Metabolism, inflammatory markers, fractional protein synthesis rate, muscle function and gene expression were assessed. Sarcopenia occurs early, and involves systemic inflammation, a catabolic state, reduced protein synthesis and degradation of muscle proteins. Malnutrition and sarcopenia are present in parallel in, and that they trigger each other in a sort of vicious circle.<eng>",
